Signature Attractions of Atlantic Canada Winds Down

December 3rd, 2009

The Signature Attraction of Atlantic Canada (SAAC), a partnership of leading cultural, heritage and natural attractions with members from all four Atlantic Provinces is winding down its activities after over eight years in the industry.

Founded with gracious assistance from ACOA, the partnership’s members, which represent the finest of Atlantic Canada’s attractions, is concluding its present incarnation as a marketing organization, Chairperson, Melanie Cookson-Carter of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs World Heritage Site, announced today.

“Signature Attractions has provided a great opportunity for us to sit around the same table, to do away with geographical boundaries and to share best practice and work toward promoting the very best that Atlantic Canada has to offer in visitor attractions”, said Cookson-Carter today about discontinuation of SAAC. “I would like to thank all past and present members and individuals who have made Signature Attractions a successful partnership in past years, and look forward to continuing the excellent relationships that have evolved from the project to enable us to move forward in a less formal and more proactive way.

No one expected that the SAAC would continue into perpetuity and we have found that it has run its course as a formal member-based society. We have made some very valuable connections and have a wonderful website, which we shall maintain.”

Citing the natural evolution of marketing groups Cookson-Carter says the dissolution of SAAC as a formal society was passed by its members unanimously but with the consideration and anticipation that it will now evolve into a working group forum for sharing best practice and perpetuating the valuable dialogue that has ensued over the duration of the project.
